Ludo Segers' new exhibition, 'In the Light We Sometimes See', explores the transformative power of light and delves into the psychological depths of the everyday.  With his "New landscapes and captivating scenes filling the halls of Traku Voke Dvaras Sodyba, these photos showcase Ludo Segers' latest work."

The exhibition is curated by Professor of Visual Arts, Ian Damerell with one hall showing the mostly landscapes photos, while the other hall displays portraits and some of Ludo’s press photography in addition to a number of new situations showing psychological themes, sometimes with a surrealistic twist.

Professor of Visual Arts, Ian Damerell, emphasizes the role of light in photography, stating it defines our perception of reality and allows photographers to capture light's essence, preserving the stories it reveals. He says, 'Everything we see is light. Without it, our world would be an invisible emptiness.'Perhaps Ludo’s photo of the Super Moon over Prienai in the summer of 2023 embodies many of these elements.

With a philosophical touch, Ian says, "without light, our world would be merely an invisible emptiness, without the colours and nuances that define our perception of reality."  He adds, "Photography was born of light and in its heart, photography is about capturing the essence of light and preserving the stories it reveals.".  The exhibition demonstrates that point, especially where Ludo Segers explores the limits of what we see and what disappears in either rain, but often the fog, sometimes the fusion of both. Those elements made some wonder where are these people in “Road to Nowhere” heading to? Or have they reached the limit of their journey?

Ian Damereall loves the various guises that light offers us, he says "But when light graces our surroundings, it transforms ordinary scenes into captivating stories of life and wonder."
He adds "Light comes in many forms—gentle and soft, or bold and stark. It can create subtle nuances or dramatic contrasts, depending on its direction and intensity.

Ludo’s background in graphical design and typography shows up in such photos like
‘Near Trakai’.  That photo also invites the viewer to question the point de mire that Ludo selected.  His rendering of ‘Trakai’ is certainly very graphic in tone, still exploring the limits that fog has imposed on this magnificent reconstructed water castle.

It all leads Ian Damerell to add that “Photographers, as true artists, master the nuances of light to bring their visions to life."  'In the light we sometimes see,' "It reminds us that moments of insight often come when we least expect them, illuminating truths that were once hidden."  About Ludo's photos, Ian Damerell he observed, “Ludo can freeze a fleeting moment, transform the everyday, and when he does, he leaves a powerful visual memory.”

A book with some additional photos, over and above the 50 on display in the 2 large halls was specially created for this exhibition.

The exhibition runs from 19 May to 16 June. Check Traku Voke Dvaras for opening hours, also during the weekend.
